2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T Spare Key Programming

A customer contacted me about getting a spare smart key for his 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. This model can use one of two different key fob frequencies, so the first step was verifying exactly which system the vehicle had before ordering anything.

I offered both OEM and aftermarket options for the replacement smart key. After discussing pricing and functionality, the customer decided to go with a high-quality aftermarket fob. Once I confirmed the correct frequency on the vehicle, I ordered the proper remote and scheduled a programming appointment as soon as it arrived.

During the visit, the customer shared an interesting story about the SUV itself. At just under 120,000 miles, the original engine threw a rod shortly before the factory warranty expired. Fortunately, the dealership approved the warranty claim and installed a completely brand new engine. That timing saved the customer from a massive repair bill and gave the vehicle a second life with many more years of reliable driving ahead and no car payments.

Because the vehicle was refreshed mechanically, the owner also decided it was worth refreshing the ownership experience with a properly working spare key. I cut the emergency insert key, programmed the new smart fob successfully, and tested all functions including remote lock/unlock and push-to-start operation.

Everything worked exactly as it should, and the customer left fully backed up with a reliable spare key.
